This makes it an ideal place to be close nature and if you love birds, why don’t you go on a bird watching tour in Uganda.

Uganda is just one of more than 20 countries that are part of the African continent. It occupies a land area of 235,000 square kilometers which has more than 1008 species of birds. This figure represents more than half of the type of bird species found in Africa making it the best place to be should you desire to go on a bird watching vacation.

There are a lot of places to go bird watching in Uganda. You can take your pick from over 700 forest reserves.

One example is the Albertine Rift Endemic Area that boasts to have 38 species of birds. The birds here can also be seen in Burundi, Congo and Rwanda. Because the government wants to protect these animals, they have setup 24 similar areas that are located in the forests of Mgahinga and Bwindi National Park in the southwest.

Apart from the forests, there are also the wetlands. Uganda has 30,000 square kilometers of wetlands and not less than 210 bird species are present at all times. You might to see the Shoebill, the African Skimmer, the Papyrus Gonolek, White Winged Warbler or the White Winged Black Tern.

Of the many national parks in Uganda, the most famous are Queen Elizabeth, Murchison Falls, Bwindi Impenetrable, Semuliki and Kibale.

The Queen Elizabeth National park has one of the highest biodiversity ratings of any game reserve in the world. Aside from the 606 bird species that roam this are, you can also see 100 mammal species.

Murchison Fall National Park is situated by the Murchison Waterfalls nearby. The wildlife in this area has drastically improved from the poaching done during the 1980’s so you are sure to see several species of birds, elephants, buffaloes, giraffes and antelopes.

The Bwidi Impenetrable National Park is home to 90 mammal species which includes 11 primates. There are about 23 bird species which still ranks among the highest in Uganda.

Semuluki National Park is one of the newest in Uganda. It lies on the border with Congo. Because of the changes that happened during the Pleistocene era, it is very ideal for both floral and fauna to grow.

Kibale National Park is considered to be the most accessible in Uganda. You will get to see various species of birds here and along the way you might get the chance to take pictures of one out of 13 primate species that inhabit this region.

You can camp out in each of these places or stay in a small hotel or camp ground so you can head out looking for birds early in the morning and get back before it gets dark.

The parks are open all year round. All you have to do is book a flight and accommodations, pack your gear and then arrive at Uganda. Don’t forget to bring your camera and download the list of bird species found here so you can easily identify what you see when you get close to them.

Sailing Boats.

Adventure Sailing Vacation Has No Limits

Adventure sailing vacation has no limits when even the physically disabled are able to achieve such a feat. This is as long as there are charities and clubs around that allow people with mixed abilities to work side by side with an able crew on equal terms.

Currently, such groups can be booked for a sailing vacation that will last from 4 days or 4 weeks. Ships can be charted to go from one point in the US to another. Charters those across the Atlantic might sail south or to the west to enjoy the warm waters of the Caribbean.

Tour groups that provide these cruises are suitable for beginners and veterans alike. First timers get to learn the basics and at the end of the course get a certificate. To get more experience, they will have to head out to sea regularly. Those who don’t have the time can take an online course because although it is not a substitute for certification, it is a good tool in preparation for your continuing sailing education.

But if you are just doing this for fun to spend time with friends, you don’t have to work. Given that charters already assign a trained crew, you can just sit back, relax and enjoy the ocean voyage.

Along the way, the ship will dock in different ports. This allows people to go inland and spend some time ashore. They can sleep there as well or go back to the ship to watch the harbor and the stars at night before it is time to set sail to their next destination.

At sea, the crew might encounter dolphins, seals and whales swimming alongside the ship. As they get closer to land, they will most likely encounter cormorants, guillemots, kittiwakes, puffins, shags, skuas and razorbills among other creatures.

Part of the package includes good quality fresh food so you don’t have to bring anything when you come aboard. Crews will do the cooking but you can assist if you want to get into the action.

To make such tours accessible to those who are and are not physically challenged, companies make it a point that the meeting points are easily accessible by plane and at cheap rates. Booking can be made through your travel agent or you can make the reservation online. You can look at their itinerary for the year so you know where the ship is going on a certain date.

There are also sailing clubs for the disabled. Some will require you to pay a membership fee while others hand this out for free.

Perhaps the biggest achievement for those who are disabled is to compete against others that have similar disabilities. Established in 1998, the US Disabling Team competes in various races annually and the biggest one this year happens to be the 2008 Paralympic Games which will be held in Qingdao, China about 430 miles east of the Capital.

So whether it is just for fun or to race for the grand prize, an adventure sailing vacation has no limits even to those with physical disabilities. This is because they can be trained to run the ship just as well as an able bodied person so they are able to set out to sea and return back to port.

Water Parks.

Water Parks Make A Great Summer Family Outing

Quality family fun is what every parent looks for. And what better way to spend a relaxing day with your family than near the water. That’s why water parks make a great summer family outing.

Water parks have plenty of entertainment to offer including all kinds of water rides, arcades, outdoor games like miniature golf and go carts, and good food. All you need to do is show up to discover the excitement that awaits you.

There are slides for all levels and ages including water pools for the very youngest family members. So whether you like a real challenge or prefer a ride that’s relaxing, it’s there.

The larger parks have intertwined looping tube slides which are a blast; some starting 6 stories above the park and ending with a splash landing. There are a variety of tubes to choose from, so if 6 stories is too high you can play on one of the smaller ones. And who says a water park is all about the slides?

These days wakeboard and knee ski are growing water sports that many water parks are now offering. The courses are usually about ½ mile long and you can test your skills. Levels start at beginner and go right up to expert. And, if you aren’t ready to give it a try you can watch. It’s a great spectator sport too!

If you prefer to partner up with your buddy, there are usually some great two person water rides to check out. The inner tubes are one of the most fun. Or why not take a ride down a twisting turning slide reaching maximum speeds as you drop from an elevated shoot.

If that’s not your style why not try the Black Hole or the equivalent offered by most parks. Here you’ll jump into a raft and take an exhilarating journey down a twisting tunnel of darkness – whoo-eee fun with a capital F!

And if you’re lucky enough to visit Orlando’s Wet and Wild, be sure to check out The Blast which will have you screaming for more as you get soaked to the core in this stimulating ride complete with sound effects. You’ll twist and turn your way down through waterspouts and burst through pipes.

What a ride! If you can’t get to Orlando don’t worry. Other water parks are offering similar rides.

When you need a rest from the water you can soak up some rays on the side. Grab a chair or relax on your beach towel. And then why not take the family for a game of miniature golf?

Don’t forget to enjoy a delicious burger and order of fries with a nice cold drink. And the day won’t be complete without ice cream.

Water parks offer a full day of fun and relaxation for the entire family. So why not get out and enjoy it? You won’t be sorry!

Ski Snow-Mobile.

Snowmobiling Holidays.

Adventurous snowmobilers often add an extra measure of excitement to their snowmobiling vacations – camping. Sleeping outdoors over night for a few consecutive nights is not an easy feat to accomplish without experiencing frostbite or hypothermia or, at the very least, extreme discomfort. It is cold enough to endure the frigid temperatures that go along with snowmobiling during the daytime hours, but the evening hours provide another level of frigidity and cold weather without the warmth of the sun to balance out the cold. There are some precautions and measures that adventurous lovers of the outdoors can take to protect themselves during winter camping to fully enjoy their experience, though.

Camping in the winter wilderness can be an exciting and adrenaline-producing experience. Planning is the most important aspect of enjoying a winter camping adventure, though. Doing research about the areas you plan to visit and the winter seasonal conditions in those regions should be foremost in your planning so you can bring the appropriate equipment to stay safe. Knowing the average amount of snow, routes that you plan to take, and the experience of the group that you are going to travel with are important factors in planning your winter camping trip.

Overnight camping, especially during the winter seasons, can cause your body to lose heat at exponential rates. This can be a great danger if the proper precautions are not taken care of during the planning stages. Thermal clothes are an essential during any winter activity like snowmobiling and they are even more vital if you are going to sleep outdoors overnight. It is also important to use the layering method.

The idea behind this method is to wear several loose layers of clothing, each layer providing more insulation for the body. Layering also makes it easier to remove clothing if the body begins to overheat. A body that is sweating will likely dehydrate and lose heat much quicker than a body that is dry, which is why it is important to find a comfortable amount of layers in order to balance the amount of heat needed to keep the body at an acceptable temperature. Winter clothing is not meant to warm the body, but rather to keep the natural heat of the body from escaping. For cooking and warmth, you will also want to pack a gas-powered stove (along with the proper fuel, of course) rather than trying to build a fire. Firewood can be difficult to find and burn in snow-covered regions.

Finally, no overnight camping trip would be complete without an ample amount of food for everybody in the group. A popular treat among campers is s’mores, but campers should also include foods that provide a better degree of nourishment. Since appetites lessen during cold weather, the food you take with you should be appealing so you are sure to get enough nutrition to keep you moving throughout the day. Food should ideally be dried rather than fresh fruits and vegetables.

These weigh too much and contain water, which can get frozen during your trip. Dried and baked goods that are rich in vitamins and minerals, such as oatmeal, granola, and cheese are ideal components for a winter camper’s diet.

A snowmobile and camping trip can be a fun and exciting excursion for adults to enjoy as groups or as couples. With some careful planning and packing, it can be an enjoyable and enlightening experience that can be enjoyed as often as possible. It is important to realize the dangers associated with poor planning so the adventure does not turn out to be a negative or even fatal outing.

Paintball.

Paintball Shooting.

Paintball is a game which has been continually gaining in popularity over the years. For people who want to experience the thrill of combat without the danger, paintball offers a great alternative to just sitting in front of your computer and shooting virtual opponents. What is the first thing you should look for when playing paintball? The answer to that would be a paintball marker.

What exactly is a paintball marker? Well, a lot of newbies to the game also know this piece of equipment as the paintball gun. This is the central piece of equipment in the game of paintball. The paintball marker launches paintballs –round, gelatinous ammo filled with dye- towards opponents. This eliminates opponents from the game.

It is important to choose the right paintball marker for you. This is because the paintball marker is the main piece of equipment that you will use in the game. Here are some qualities you should definitely check out before buying a paintball marker:

1) Range – this quality determines just how far the paintball marker will be able to shoot. Although it may seem as if finding a gun with the best range is desirable, you have to realize that there are some situations which call for short-range paintball markers. This is mostly because of the fact that long-range paintball guns tend to be bigger and thus, need considerably more effort to use. Long range weapons are good for sniping but the fact that they take a long time to shoot makes them bad for speedball games.

2) Accuracy – when you buy a paintball marker, you need to make sure that it is able to hit whatever you point it at. There are many factors that affect the accuracy of the paintball marker. An additional 1-4 inches of barrel size, for instance, is claimed by many people to add to the accuracy of the paintball marker. You should also check out that the sights of the paintball marker you buy are configured properly. Of course, if you're a lousy shot, the accuracy of the paintball marker won't matter much.

3) Stealth – staying undetected can be a key factor in a paintball game. Unfortunately, with the wrong type of paintball marker, once you start shooting, you end up revealing your position. There are certain things you have to look for in a paintball marker in order for you to make sure that you remain undetectable in the field.

The first thing you should check out, of course, is the appearance. There are certain types of paintball markers which may look cool on the shelf but are dead giveaways on the field. This may not be a problem if you only play speedball games but could present a whole lot of complications if you are playing in the woods or even in an urban-assault scenario. Anything shiny is out.

You should also make sure that the paintball marker you buy does not make a lot of noise when you are shooting. The distinctive sound of the paintball marker is caused by the gas compressing in the barrel. Some people attempt to reduce this sound by "porting" or making holes in the barrel. This works but it makes the paintball marker consume more gas.

These are just some things you have to think about when buying a paintball marker. By considering these factors properly, you should be able to find the paintball marker best suited to your playing style.

Scuba Diving At Bay Islands.

Caribbean Adventure Scuba Diving

If you’re searching total tranquility for scuba diving adventure in a tropical paradise, Bay Islands is the one for you.

Bay Islands is located along the coasts of Belize and Honduras situated in western Caribbean. With its picture perfect scenery that includes palm trees, smooth white beaches, and clear blue water, truly Bay Islands is a world wonder. Bay Islands consists of the islands of Guanaja, Roatan, Utila, and to over 60 islets that sits atop on the world’s second biggest barrier reef.

With its great coral reefs along the edges, Bay Islands is the right place for you to scuba dive. Because of its huge reef system, you can find different kinds of corals and sponges. The water will give you good visibility in finding over 800 species of fish. The water current can give you the opportunity to dive within 15 feet from reefs up to diving 200 feet on sea mounds without getting swept by.

The largest of Bay Islands is Roatan which is about 42 miles long and 2 miles wide. Roatan’s northern and southern reefs is home of about 40 dive sites that can give both beginners and professional divers the chance to explore the plummeting walls, caverns, and crevices.

Roatan also features some of the best shore diving sites that include the famed Spooky Channel. Spooky Channel is a streambed that forms a cut all the way through the reef. Snorkelling atop of the 8-foot crack of the reef is indeed exciting. In fact, divers can actually swim through the wider interior of the said channel to make the dive more enjoyable.

The smaller island of Utila, on the other hand, gained a status as great spot for beginners in scuba diving. Dive shops in Utila are offering cheaper cost for diving courses. So, Utila has become the haven for low-budget amateur divers. With the competition between dive shops, the price for a dive course is down to about between $125 to $150 in any open water course or advanced open water course.

Recently, Utila became the home of whale sharks which is the world’s largest fish. Don’t you worry, whale sharks are harmless as you can swim alongside the fish. You can also be lucky to have the chance to swim and dive with dolphins. The best months to see these creatures are from March to May.

Getting to Bay Islands is very accessible. By air travel, there are available flights that can direct you either to the island of Roatan or the Honduran mainland. By sea route, there are also available cruise ships that depart by schedule from different ports in the United States to Caribbean.

For your Scuba Diving adventure in the Caribbean, Bay Islands is the best.

How To Scuba Diving.

How To Scuba Diving

Scuba or Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus was invented by Jacques Yves Cousteau, a French naval officer. He and his co-developer, Emile Gagnan, paved the way to the modern SCUBA equipment called the aqualung in 1943. It was first used by navy divers to clear underwater mines and also to do salvage operations in sunken ships.

Today, scuba diving is one of the most popular recreational activities in the world. It allows you to freely explore the underwater world and have fun in the process. Scuba diving is mostly popular in tropical waters.

Today, there are quite a number of scuba diving agencies that certifies scuba divers, such as PADI, NAUI and SSI that teaches and trains people to go scuba diving. If you want to go scuba diving, you first need a certification in order to go scuba diving. Scuba diving resorts will never allow you to go diving without certification from any of the agencies mentioned. This is because scuba diving can be dangerous if you don’t know anything about it.

For instance, you need to know about underwater pressure and how to cope with it. The pressure itself can be dangerous if you don’t know how to equalize. It can lead to discomfort in the ear and sometimes may relatively cause injuries in your ear drum. You should also know about the air you breathe if it is under pressure. You should know about diving related injuries in order to know how to cope with it.

There are a lot of diving destinations available all over the world. If you want to dive these places, you have to undergo scuba diving instructions and get yourself certified as a scuba diver. You can get certified by diving instructors that can be found in your local dive center. An instructor will teach all about things related to scuba diving.

He or she will teach you how to deal with problematic situations that may occur underwater, such as low on air situation, out of air situation, unable to equalize, and also gear problems, such as a free flowing regulator.

Scuba diving has a lot of gear that you should be familiar with in order to have a safe and enjoyable dive. Gear will include mask, fins, snorkel, exposure suits, BCD, regulator, tank, fins, diving computers, diving time pieces, and other diving accessories.

This equipment is essential for diving and you should know how each of these works and how it can save your life if in case, although rare, you encounter problems underwater.

Supercross Racing.

The Popularity of Supercross Motorcycle Racing

When you think about racing, what is the first sport that comes to mind?  If you are like most other Americans, it is likely that you would respond with NASCAR.  NASCAR is, by far, the most popular racing sport in the United States, but do you know what comes in at a close second?  Honestly, there has been some debate over this, but many say that supercross motorcycle racing is highly popular and that popularity is expected to keep on rising.

Are you a supercross motorcycle racing fan?  If so, you likely already know what it is about the sport that makes it so popular and draws in fans.  However, if you are not a supercross motorcycle racing fan, you may be wondering what is great about the sport.  If this is the case, you are definitely not alone.  There are thousands, if not millions, of other Americans who are wondering the same thing.

To understand the popularity of supercross motorcycle racing, you must first understand the sport itself.

Supercross racing is almost exactly like motocross racing, but it takes place indoors, in most cases.  Instead of creating a man-made track outside, a man-made track is created indoors. These events mostly take place in large football stadiums or other similar venues.  Since the track is shorter, the races are often shorter, but the excitement is still the same. In fact, some might say that the excitement created by supercross motorcycle racing is even better than the excitement created by motocross racing. One of the reasons being that you can see all of the action, since the supercross tracks are smaller and usually indoors.

Of course being able to see the action is one of the reasons why supercross motorcycle racing is so popular, but the action is a reason all on its own.  As previously mentioned, supercross racing tracks are usually man-made.  Like motocross tracks, these tracks have a number of turns, jumps, small humps.

Supercross motorcycle racing is popular because the sport is able to reach a number of different people. As previously mentioned, motocross tracks tend to only be located in rural areas.  This means that if someone from a large town or city wanted to watch a race, they would have to travel a pretty far distance. It is also important to note, that for the most part, motocross races were not and are still not always broadcasted on television.

This is not the case with supercross motorcycle racing. Not only are a number of supercross motorcycle races shown on television, but they are also part of a traveling circuit.  This means that instead of racing at the same venue, supercross racing takes place at a number of different ones, all across the country.  Essentially, this means that just about anyone can have access to supercross racing; thus, increasing its popularity.

Of course, many fans are obsessed with their favorite racers.  The same can be said when having a favorite football player or basketball player.  Fans just love to tune in and see their favorite athletes.

Perhaps, the relationship that the fans develop with their favorite supercross rider is the biggest reasons why supercross motorcycle racing has become as popular as it is today.

South Africa Safaris.

Wonderful South African Safaris

Oh the beautiful South Africa. Endowed with rich tapestry of culture, vast lands, unequalled safaris…South Africa is truly a place for one who wants to reconnect with nature.  South African safaris are home to wide spectrum of animal species including the celebrated group of five: the buffalo, rhino, lion, elephant and leopard.

They were not named so because they have gained great popularity but because they mainly offer the experience of witnessing the dance of life happening in sight of travelers. They are the hunters that give fright to their preys. Thus, excitement for their viewers.

Game viewing, as this activity is called, is typically done with walking safari. However, due to the increase in popularity of canoeing, horseback riding and camel safaris, walking becomes only one of a tourist' option. It is designed specifically for the hardy souls though and for the physically fit.

A standard walking safari is composed of 8 to 12 persons aged 12 to 60. This lasts for 3 days and 2 nights. With other modes of game viewing however, one should be in company of a guide.

The flagship of all South African safaris is the Kruger National Park creation of Paul Kruger, the president of Transvaal Republic in 1898. His advanced vision sparked the idea of creating wildlife sanctuaries and preservation areas to let nature continue growing at her own rate.

With the Kruger National Park, South Africa is truly unrivalled in its immense resources. The big five aside, South African harbors some of animal world's most interesting games such as the wild dogs, cheetahs, spotted hyenas, warthog, an array of antelope species and jackals, hippos, and zebras. Kruger Park is also home for some 500 species of birds and 140 species of mammals.

With its 20, 000 sq. km land area of unspoilt land, Kruger offers visitors not only its animal resources but also its wide spectrum of plant species.

South Africa safaris are not only made famous by the Kruger National Park, they also placed their names in top African destination through the fame of The Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park- one of the biggest wildlife conservation areas in the world.

It is not for the fainthearted though. This is the sight for the distinguished black-maned Kalahari lions along with other animal species like bat-eared foxes, blue wildebeest, gemsbok, and the likes.

While on South African safaris, never forget to take some images of wildlife with you. Capture them in photos if you can. Animals such as those that thrive in nature pass only once. It would be wise if you can have a token of remembrance from them.

The Serengeti.

Night Safari: Solace, Peace and Marvel.

Looking at the night sky. The hobby that we seem to have received from our ancestors. A past time that enjoys a special place in our personal history and the history of the world. No matter how many times we look up at the night sky, we are still arrested in awe everytime we catch a glimpse of its wonder.

Too many things were inspired just by mere looking at the night sky. One of such things that have gathered too much controversy and competition is the race towards the moon. Well, now we're getting too far…
You see, if you want to see clearer view of the sky, go to places where the sky is barren, where it is not blocked by soaring man-made buildings. Where our vision is not flawed by the shimmering lights of urbanization. Go to where it is peaceful. Go to where the night sky is clear and pleasant so you may evoke memories of past and sentiments of the Wisdom that created everything that lies at your sight. Go to African safari and watch the night as it rolls.

One of the most captivating images of night safari are those that depict the Serengeti National Park.
The park is simply vast and endless. The plains flat and the vision, clear. Not only are these suitable for game-viewing, it is also well suited for star gazing.

Serengeti has no other lights except the one that is given off by the moon and slightly contributed by the stars. The nights are clearer here and it is seldom that clouds impede your vision.
Serengeti night safari doesn't not only provide peace and rest, it also calms the heart. It eases our troubles during the day and it washes the fatigue brought by the tiring journey we took during the daytime.

Whether you are on walking safari, riding the balloon, or driving, the views of Serengeti does not change at all. It is still impressively beautiful as it is during the day. Too much of the wild life activity may be lacking but it is after all, nighttime. Everyone needs to rest except only off course the nocturnal animals.

If you prefer to have a higher view, you may try camping at Seronera Valley for a night.
Though Serengeti is truly full of activities during the waking hours, its main beauty can also be perceived with the night sky. If there is a way to count the stars that surround you during the night, it still won't work when you arrive at Serengeti for a night safari. They are countless and they number in millions.

On Safari

Back to the Basics of Safari

Safari in Swahili primarily means "journey", normally pertaining to hunting for survival and exploration of lands that may be turned into communities by the local tribes. However, in the modern sense, safari seems to have changed its meaning into discovery and adventure amidst wildlife and nature and the habitats of animals, birds, plant species that thrive in the vast pieces of land.

The most common form of safariing is taken by means of walking which are designed specifically for hardy people. Hardy are the natives here and so they were adopted to the forms of living. They maintain walking trails that explorers use until these days.

Nonetheless, with the advantages in transportation modes of safariing are becoming more and more comfortable which features hot air ballooning, fly-in safaris, driving safaris, canoeing safaris, horse back riding safaris, and elephant back safaris (Oh how exciting is that!).

As for the categories, African safaris normally offer three basic types namely permanent tented safaris, lodge safaris, and mobile safaris. Nonetheless, if couples would want to avail of the honeymoon safaris, they may be granted the choice.

One complete safari that will travel from the East region towards the Southern parts take around 10 to 21 days.

If you are planning to make an African safari adventure, it would be best if you avail of a local tour operator or an experienced specialist so you would have the assurance that they know all the know-hows.

It is vital that you also have knowledge of some practices, cultures and etiquette so you would be able to avoid mishaps with the local people. For your safari package, never forget some essentials like meals, accommodation, transportation, driver/guide service, excursions and the likes.

There certainly is an overwhelming, endless arrays of choices for safari travel. There are hundreds of conservation parks and wildlife sanctuaries, continuing display of life and death dancing as the game goes on between the prey and the predator, marvelous places to witness, vast savannas, camping grounds and plant and animal species.

Visiting African safari is more like visiting another planet when we perceive it against the modern day sense. It is home to thousands of species that are only found in Savannah. It offers sights that may only be seen in its confines. It displays activities that we don't normally see everyday. Desserts and mountains that are out of the context of what we typically understand. And unique cultures that mark how rich African history is.

It is like Africa and its safaris are the remembrances of how the sixth day of creation looks. It is the living remembrance of how the Creator intended things to be. The perfection, the diversity, the coexistence between man and his nature and the life that surrounds everything.

Ski Jet - Water Motorcycles?

Jet Skiing: The Most Popular Among Watersports

Jet skiing is comparable with water skiing. The only difference is that instead of being towed by a motorboat or speedboat, in jet skiing, the enthusiast uses the watercraft itself. And since speedboat used is just like a motorcycle, jet skiing is sometimes called motorcycling in the water.

In the 1960’s, a small company called Bombadier created a personal watercraft, used in the developing jet ski sport. But in 1973, Kawasaki created and marketed a watercraft of this type and named it Jet Ski as a trademark. The name Jet Ski stuck, and subsequent models of the watercraft introduced by different companies had been referred generically as “jet ski”. It is from this craft that jet skiing as a sport ultimately derived its name.

Jet skiing as a sport

Jet skiing today is very popular as a watersport. Aside from the United States, jet skiing is hugely popular in the United Kingdom and also in other regions frequented by tourists, such as the Caribbean and Hawaii.

Jet skiing is comparatively the easiest way to learn among the watersports. This is another reason for its being widely popular. And for the thrill seeker, this is one sport most people get invovled in because of its inherent speed. It is this adrenalin-pumping capacity of jet skiing that make many people attached to it.

But experts recommend that whoever wants to be in this sport should at least have basic watercraft proficiency training. Prior experience with other sports gives an individual an edge, but this does include the exemption from basic training. Also, many jet skiing sites nowadays are requiring a certificate of training before anyone is given access to the certain venues for the sport.

Water craft for jet skiing

The jet ski as a watercraft is a fusion of a water skiing device and a speedboat, which looks and sounds like a motorcycle when in action. But just like a squid, a jet ski derives it power from an enclosed gas-powered motor to push water out in a jet stream. This is undoubtedly a creative way of doing away with the traditional propeller or screw motor.

When skiing, the jet ski operator secures a steady and central platform to be prepared for the shock, with knees bent slightly. The jet ski motor is started with a switch located in a column in front of the operator. A dead man’s switch should also be present in all standard jet ski models. This system is the connection between the driver and the ignition. Once the driver falls off, the motor is instantaneously halted, preventing accidents.

Safety concern with jet skiing

Like any other physical activity, jet skiing, has its own share of accidents. In the past five or six years, about 32,000 people, mostly amateurs, were treated in a hospital for several jet ski related accidents. For families taking their holiday with all the children, safety measures should be on the list of priorities.

The comparative ease of manoeuvering the jet ski helps enthusiasts to be emboldened, which contributes to the tendency of ignoring the safety measures. In some cases, even basic caution is ignored.

Drivers and operators should be aware of all boating rules enforced while on the water since jet skis are still considered boats, legally. Luckily, in January 2000, all individuals who operate a jet skiing personal watercraft should have passed a boater safety course.

Ski or Snowboard?

Ski Or Snowboard? You Decide

Which do you prefer: skiing or snowboarding?

Skiing and snowboarding are two of the modern sports that are almost identical in form, yet in terms of origin and development are separated by many years.

Early roots of skiing

Broadly, skiing is an activity that involves moving over solid snow using skis. Historical data suggest that skiing was originally used as a means of transportation. Records also show that it slowly evolved from snowshoeing -- as a fast and convenient way of moving from place to place in areas heavily covered with snow.

Eventually, skiing evolved into a popular sport and recreational activity by the turn of the 20th century. Among the earliest forms of skiing, which have survived largely unchanged up to this day, are the popular Nordic and cross-country style.

The birth of snowboarding

Snowboarding, on the other hand, is considered as a boardsport on snow that closely resembles skiing. In fact, the difference between the two sports is only recognizable through their origin. Skiing has a utilitarian origin; while snowboarding evolved from the more carefree world of surfing and skateboarding. Today, snowboarding is an increasingly popular winter sport in most major countries in the world.

Being a relatively new sport, snowboarding was developed from early efforts by several people with different backgrounds, like Chuck Barfoot, Dimitri Mitrovitch, Tom Sims, Jake Burton Carpenter and Sherman Poppen.

Sherman Poppen invented and marketed “Snurfer” in 1965. Developed in Poppen’s home at North Muskegon, Michigan, the snurfer was the first commercially available snowboard. Burton, on the other hand, is the founder of Burton Snowboards, one of the largest snowboard companies today. By the 1980s, several snowboard companies like Sims, Winterstick, and Avalanche started to operate actively within the market.

Also during this time, Hollywood films started to feature scenes on snowboarding, particularly the movies of Warren Miller. This greatly helped in making snowboard a more popular sport inside the skiing world. In the 1990’s, snowboarding had broken into the mainstream.

Skiing holds ground in popularity

Skiing, though could not be credited in one person, had Sondre Norheim, considered as the “father of modern skiing”. Sondre Norheim developed bindings that enabled skiers to execute turns while skiing down hills. This particular type of skiing is known as Slalom, a Norwegian term for a difficult track. But, currently, this form of skiing is called Telemark skiing.

Further down the road, the invention of sturdier bindings for the skier’s feet for skiing gave this sport a better edge. Thanks to Matthias Zdarsky, an Austrian, the skier is now able to turn more easily, which ultimately led to the conception of the Alpine, or Downhill, skiing.

Much later, in the early 20th century, another Austrian, Hannes Schneider of Arlberg, pushed the idea of rotating the body while on the move to steer the skis. Soon, this technique was being performed in every major skiing event, which helped skiing gather a great number followers.

Snowboarding continues to be popular
Snowboarding, however, has firmly settled its roots in the hearts of its growing number of enthusiasts. Snowboarding was officially incorporated in the 1998 Winter Olympic Games, as one of the sports events. Snowboarding is also a focus in the annual European and U.S. Open Snowboarding Championships, including the Winter X-Games.

If these events continue, snowboarding will continue its evolution or development into the next level. And this is not far fetched because snowboarding is immensely popular in the U.S. and Europe, and slowly gaining ground in other continents.

Downhill Skiing.

Extreme Skiing: Pushing Yourself To The Limit

Strictly speaking, traditional extreme skiing is accomplished on long, steep slopes. The elevation is usually 45 to 60 degrees vertical, or even more. And this is performed in dangerous terrain -- far from marked tracks. Since the game is done off marked spots, this also called off-piste skiing.

Other sports authorities also refer to this type of skiing as backcountry skiing or off-piste skiing. This type is a potentially high risk sport, since avalance risk is almost always part of the game itself. Extreme exhaustion on the part of the skiers multiplies the risk factor of extreme skiing.

According to several sources, it was the French who coined the term "Le Ski Extreme" in the middle of 1970's, to refer to this type of high energy skiing. Extreme skiing, however, was being practiced a decade earlier than the birth of its name. Swiss skier Sylvain Saudan, with his "windshield wiper" turn in the early 1960's was the acknowledged pioneer with this extreme sports.

Other French followed in the footsteps of Saudan and further developed the method in the 1980's, until it caught on in other parts of Europe, particularly in Great Britain, and ultimately, reaching the American shores. This type of skiing, particularly the "French" model, had produced a considerable number of deaths among the practitioners.
I
n the US today, extreme skiing has evolved into several forms. Thanks to its loyal followers, the game is continuously transforming. Though several of these forms are not really as dangerous as the concept, they are nevertheless dangerous and, at times, potentially deadly since the risk factor is always high. Some of these modern forms are:

1. Helicopter skiing
This type of skiing, as the name suggests, involves a helicopter. The aircraft is used to elevate the skiers in to a place of his liking. Diver-like, the practitioner rushes downward from the helicopter, careening down a slope track like a vehicle negotiating a highway. If you're the type of who favors extreme games executed with style, then this type of extreme skiing is just for you.

2. Snow cat skiing
This is done by being aboard a heated snow cat (sled) then traversing the highly elevated slopes at great speeds. This type of extreme skiing is not particularly dangerous compared with other types. But it is still potentially dangerous because the skier can lose control of the sled while it rushes through the unforgiving snow slopes.

3. Snowkiting
This type of extreme of skiing is performed with a snowkite, or a snowboard. Wind is one prerequisite of this game, however, since it is the snowkite that will lift you into the spots that you choose. Some enthusiasts refer to snowkiting as ultimate game in all of the backcountry skiing events. Snowkites, with the help of the wind, can allows players to jump carry a player up to 100 feet, making it potentially dangerous, and comparable with other extreme sports.

4. Snowmobiling
Snowmobiling is more like jet skiing, only in snow. Of all the skiing types and forms, this one gives to the player the feeling of safety or "control" since the skiers have a comparative advantage of controlling the snowmobile, being the driver. This is advisable for those skiers who are good drivers since this type of extreme skiing is more like car racing.

Visit Grand Canyon.

A Great Grand Canyon Hiking Trip Starts with Planning

When you and your friends decide to have a Grand Canyon Hiking trip, the experience must be fitting to the name. The following are important things you need to know about Grand Canyon and Grand Canyon hiking:

How to go there?

Most travelers who want to go to the Grand Canyon either land on the Sky Harbor International in Phoenix (PHX) or the McCarran International in Las Vegas (LAS). From there, travelers have 2 choices: either to take a half-day drive or utilize a commuter flights from Phoenix to Page, Arizona (PGA) or Flagstaff, Arizona (FLG). Obviously, if you decide to take the commuter flights, you can spend more time on your actual hiking than on the road but if you want to spend more time on the road, here are the estimated travel times to the South Rim from these major cities:
Albuquerque, New Mexico: 7 hours, Denver, Colorado: 13 hours, Las Vegas, Nevada: 5 hours, Los Angeles, California: 8 hours, Phoenix, Arizona: 4.5 hours, and Salt Lake City, Utah: 8 hours.

Where to go?

You have 3 choices if you decide to visit the Grand Canyon: the Grand Canyon South Rim, Grand Canyon West, and Grand Canyon North Rim.

The Grand Canyon South rim is ideal if you are traveling with children. The Grand Canyon West is great if you want to avoid high altitude or want to experience the bottom of the Canyon. But, since you are going for a hike, you should go to the Grand Canyon North Rim.

When to visit?

Climate is the major consideration you have to look into when you are planning for a Grand Canyon hike. The South Rim, which is open the whole year, is busiest during summer where the weather is warm and the land is dry. Winter sends cooler breeze and possible snow, which turns out to be the quietest time of the year. Late spring to early fall is the best time to visit the South Rim if you want a lesser crowd and a good weather.
A hike on the Grand Canyon North Rim can be done from mid-May to mid-October.

Where to stay?

There are different hotels on 3 different areas near the Canyon if you just want to spend the day hiking and the night, indoor. The South Rim has: Williams, Page/Lake Powell, Flagstaff, and Tusayan. The nearest lodging houses in the North Rim are Page/Lake Powell, Kanab, Utah, and Jacob Lake.

Book early.

Grand Canyon lodging receives a lot of reservations during peak travel season so do not wait until the phone lines are busy and your call cannot go through. Book 6 months in advance,

Know the weather.

Grand Canyon has a relatively dry weather compared to other states. So better make the necessary preparation on what to bring and what to wear on the hike. Don’t forget your sunglasses, sunscreen, and your hat.

Think of other activities

Hiking is only one of the things you can do in Grand Canyon. And if you are planning to stay there for several days, better have a line up of the things to do such as 4x4 safari-jeep tours, train tours, Colorado River rafting trips, Grand Canyon air tours, and Grand Canyon mule rides. If you still have the time, plan to go to places other than the Grand Canyon. You can also visit Sedona, Hoover Dam, Monument Valley, Zion, Lake Powell, and Bryce Canyon among other places.

Preparing Yourself.

Mountain Hiking Self-Preparation Tips

There are several things that you need to know before you take on a mountain hiking journey you have been planning for sometime now. Here are some of them:

Everyone thinks that mountain hiking could be performed by practically everyone. The sad truth is that it was never meant for everyone to endeavor. Maybe some people can't naturally survive away from the usual everyday comforts, some people have no ability to adjust to the ruggedness of the mountain trails and maybe some people are physically incapacitated to experience, learn and enjoy mountain hiking. But there are always a bunch of adventurous souls that would give everything, even if it means losing some of life's greatest comforts. But of course it does not always come to that. But the thing is, some people are more adept to the outdoors while others are more suited for cozy living.

So before you continue planning, it is best that you determine what type of soul you have, are you the adventurous soul or the laidback one?

Second, know everything about mountain hiking. You cannot go to the mountains unarmed. You need to know what are the essentials of mountain hiking, you need to know where are the best places to hike and you need to know what to bring with you on a mountain hiking trip among with other vital things you should be packing along with your fundamental knowledge. A little homework will do while an extensive research would give you far better results than what you have first expected.

Know the items you should be packing with you. Of course there are the usual stuffs like pre-packaged foods, safety kits, camping gears and mountaineering must-haves but you should take note of other essential things you should be packing along with your things. Some mountain hiking destinations require specific items and you should take note what these are. Sometimes, a simple mistake could endanger your life, it is best that you protect yourself during the very early stages of planning through carefully preparing the gears and equipments you need.

Know the terrain and check out the usual phenomenon occurring in the mountain hiking area. In Colorado for example, there are certain places where you are most prone to thunderstorms during summer. In Alaska, there are snow-clad mountain trails that you should be carefully watching for. In Canada, there are particular spots where you would be showered a lot. With the exemption of these things, you could be well assured of nice trips. However, forgetting to take note of them could lead to disastrous results. Thus, you need to get these particular things checked.

Get some good grips. If your hiking boots are new or you are new to mountain hiking, it is best to place yourself in the most strategic positions with the least possible prospect of accidents. In some mountain hiking areas, the ground surfaces are highly textured while others have peculiarly wet grounds. If you are not quite careful with the footing, you might find yourself slipping. Of course nobody wants such accidents so we advise that you firmly step on the ground below you. You could also be helped well if you have a decent pair of mountain hiking boots.

Prepare yourself for the hike. If you are physically fit then mountain hiking may not be so hard with you. However, even if you seem to be of optimum health, you still have to condition yourself for the tedious work of mountain hiking. Be prepared with both the hike up and down the trail and everything in between.

Climbing & Hiking Safety.

Climbing Equipment and Hiking Supply You cannot Leave Without

Hiking and climbing trips require a great deal of preparation from physical conditioning to gathering the equipment and supply needed survive the trip. Here are the lists of the most important, must have climbing equipment and hiking supply:

Climbing Equipment

Rope, cord, and webbing.

The ropes used in climbing are different from ropes used on other purposes. There are two classes of climbing ropes: static ropes and dynamic ropes. Static ropes are non-elastic ropes which are usually used for rappelling since they reduce the bounce, which makes it easier for an individual to descent. Static ropes are also used in anchoring systems. Dynamic ropes on the other hand are used as belay ropes since they are elastic. The purpose of elasticity is to reduce the force and tension created to the ropes and the person should he or she falls.

Belay devices.

Belay devices allow the control of the belay ropes, important to keep the climber safe during accent or descent. The mechanical friction brake devices lock the rope with a minimal effort making the climb safer for both the person and the device.

Draws or quickdraws

Quickdraws consist of non-locking carabiners linked by a short, pre-sewn, ring of webbing. They are used to attach ropes bolt anchors for protection which permit the rope to run through them with nominal friction.

Crab or carabiner

The crab, a climbing equipment usually made of aluminum, is a metal loop with spring-loaded gate, used as connectors. There are 2 type of crab: locking, and non-locking.

Climbing harness

A harness is worn either around the pelvis or chest, which is connected to a rope. There are other ways to wear the harness other than the 2 mentioned and there are types of harness for a particular outdoor activity such as canyoning and caving. However, the principle remains the same: to keep the climber from falling to the ground.

Other climbing equipment are figure eight, rescue eight, rack, ascenders, nuts, tricams, etc.

Hiking supply

Pocket knife or utility knife

Pocket knife is a small folding knife, usually between 3 to 5 inches in length. The skipjoint knife that contains more than just one blade is often used as a soft duty utility tool. Swiss Army Knife and United States Army knife are two of the more popular skipjoint knife varieties in the market. It contains an array of tool such as scissors, corkscrews, bottle openers, saws, plain edges, and serrated.

Food and Water

It may be obvious to bring food and water on the trip but it is still worth mentioning. If you are planning to cook during the trip, bring your own portable stove. An ample supply of clean drinking water keeps you from drinking water coming from lakes and rivers you came across, which can be unsafe.

Compass
GPS is good until it runs out of power. A small compass will not be a big weight to carry. Do not forget to bring and learn to use one along with the map.

Map
Okay. It's just hiking and you'll find your way in and out of it through the trails. Still, you need to bring your map because you'll never know when you will use it.

Clothes and raingear
Bring appropriate clothes on your hiking trip. No short and Capri pants. Just heel closed shoes, long-sleeved shirt, and a cap. Do not forget to bring raingear too.

Your Survival.

A Mental Wilderness Survival Kit

A survival kit should be carried by anyone who goes deep into the wilderness. What should be in it? Matches, a blade of some sort, and first aid supplies are among the usual recommendations. When you read the true stories of survival, though, you start to see that it is what's in a persons head that often determines if they survive or not. What, then, should be in this mental survival kit?

A Survival Kit In Your Mind

1. Willingness to learn. Even those who know nothing about survival until lost in the wilderness can still learn as they go - if they are willing to. If you're cold, watch that squirrel dive under a pile of leaves, and try that to stay warm (it works). Notice what's working and what isn't, and keep trying new things.

2. Willingness to do what's necessary. This is one of the most important items in your mental survival kit. Hey, they can eat hissing cockroaches just for the chance to win some money on "Fear Factor," so you can do it to save your life, right? Spoon with your buddy to stay warm, break open logs to find grubs to eat - do whatever it takes.

3. Positive attitude. This is an essential. In many stories of survival it is clear that those who expected to survive did. Even if you're not sure you can survive, encourage this attitude by acting as if you expect to.

4. Inspirational thoughts. This is how to have that positive attitude. An easy and enjoyable way to get this inspiration is to read true stories of wilderness survival. Some of the stories are about situations far worse than anything you are ever likely to encounter. Remembering them at the appropriate time is a sure way to see that you can survive. tell them to others too, if you are in a group.

5. Wilderness survival knowledge. You don't have to go to a survival training school to read and remember that you can safely eat all North American mammals, or that you can stuff your jacket with cattail fluff to create a winter coat. Any little bit helps, so learn a new trick or two each season, or take an edible plant guide on your next hike.

Reasons to survive. We all have reasons to want to live, but we need to remember to pull out those reasons when the time comes. Many people have attributed their survival to the constant thought of a loved one waiting for them, or something they want in the future.

Maybe you've already done this mental preparation, but it can't hurt to look over the list above again. Is there anything you need to work on in your mental survival kit?
